Lecturer in German at University College, London

Annie Ring is Lecturer in German at University College, London. Her research is focussed on topics of surveillance and complicity in modern German and comparative culture, and theories of the archive, subjectivity and collectivity. She has published on critical spectatorship in the works of Michael Haneke and on Harun Farocki’s use of moving image archives to uncover the hidden complicities on which late capitalism relies. Before joining the Department of German at UCL, Annie held a Research Fellowship at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, during which time she organised conferences and screenings with filmmakers Jessica Hausner, Ruth Beckermann and Carmen Losmann, and with photographer and videographer Henrietta Williams. Annie is Co-Investigator of the project Uncertain Archives, funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research, and Co-Investigator of the German Screen Studies Network, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service.
