Simon Pickl specialises in language variation and change in German. He obtained his MA and PhD from the University of Augsburg, where he worked as a researcher in an interdisciplinary project on quantitative methods in dialectology and geolinguistics. He then took up a postdoctoral position at the University of Salzburg, where he worked on language geography and language history of German. From 2016 to 2017 he held a Senior Scientist position at the University of Innsbruck before returning to Salzburg in 2017. Since October 2017, he has been a Feodor Lynen Research Fellow (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation / Isaac Newton Trust) at the University of Cambridge, where he works primarily on grammatical change in the history of German using a corpus of sermons from the 9th to the 19th centuries.
