Is love a conservative force? Response to talk given by John David Rhodes

A recent talk given by Dr. John David Rhodes on queer melodrama prompted a response in online film journal Little White Lies.

Rhodes' talk centered on the work of Sirk, Fassbinder and Haynes, exploring whether Fassbinder’s and Haynes' 'cinephilic' responses to Sirk’s films suggest a potentially queer way of loving film, and a broader relation between loving and knowing. The review, which can be viewed here, draws on Rhodes' exploration of queer expression and the conservatism of love.
