Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Centre for Film and Screen
Professor David E. James of the University of Southern California joined the Centre for Film and Screen as its first Distinguished Visiting Scholar. Prof. James was here during the 2016 Lent and Easter terms. One of the most rigorous, compelling, and prolific historians and critics of avant-garde and experimental film, Prof. James actually began his career here at Cambridge where he earned his B.A. and M.A. in English Literature. It was an honour and a privilege to have him back at Cambridge at the very moment that the University was expanding its work in film and screen studies. Prof. James’s tenure here coincided with the publication of his newest book, Rock N’ Film: Cinema’s Dance with Popular Music (Oxford University Press).
