We are delighted to welcome seven new colleagues to the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics. Their expertise spans linguistics, Italian studies, film, and digital media, enriching our research and teaching community.
- Amanda Cole (Assistant Professor of Sociolinguistics) - studies language variation, change, and attitudes, with a focus on English dialects in south-east England.
- Julia Keblinska (Assistant Professor of Asian Film and Media) - researches modern Chinese media history and theory, bringing global and comparative perspectives to film and media studies.
- Suhail Matar (Assistant Professor of Neurolinguistics) - investigates how the brain processes language using methods such as EEG, MEG and fMRI, with particular attention to Arabic and other understudied languages.
- Anna Pegoretti (Professor of Medieval Italian Literature and Culture) - specialises in medieval Italian literature and culture, with a focus on Dante and the intellectual traditions of the Middle Ages.
- Luca Peretti (Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature and Culture) - focuses on modern Italian literature, cinema, and culture, exploring intersections between politics, media, and memory.
- Norma Schifano (Assistant Professor of Italian and Comparative Romance Linguistics) - works on morphosyntactic variation and change across the Romance languages, including Italian and contact phenomena.
- Stefan Tarnowski (Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities and Film & Screen Studies) - works on media anthropology, digital infrastructures, and visual culture, with particular interest in the social and political dimensions of digital media.
