Claudia Domenici completed her undergraduate studies in Modern Languages at the University of Pisa, and her postgraduate studies (MA in Language Studies, specializing in translation theory) at the University of Lancaster.
She has taught Italian language and culture, and co-ordinated the language programme in Italian at a number of British universities, including Cardiff, Lancaster, and Bristol, before being appointed at Cambridge.
Dott. Domenici oversees the language programme for the Tripos in Italian, teaches and examines at all levels of the Tripos, contributes to the Faculty’s postgraduate language teaching training and has been actively involved with the Italian Section and Faculty outreach and access programme for a number of years.
Dott. Domenici’s areas of interest and expertise are in language teaching methodology (with special attention to ab-initio level), the creation of language teaching material, the interaction of language and culture in language teaching, translation studies, the integration of multimedia in language and culture teaching, the language development and assessment of the Year Abroad.
Dott. Domenici has been involved in producing Italian language and culture teaching materials in a number of formats. Among her projects are the creation of Italian Essentials and Basic Italian Grammar in the Just in Time series of the Language Centre Online resources, the design and production of ‘Intervista con Andrea Camilleri’ and ‘Intervista con Dacia Maraini’ (video and activities), and the production and coordination of school teaching material for Italian within the HE+ Project. She is currently working on producing pre-arrival culture and language online material.
