soviet film night

What better way to end Week 1 than by coming to watch an old Soviet Classic?

The Cranes Are Flying, directed by Mikhail Kalatozov in 1957 and breathtakingly shot by Sergei Urusevsky, is one of the masterpieces of Post-Stalin 'Thaw' era cinema.  It is set during the Second World War in Moscow and tells the story of Veronika, a young girl whose lover leaves to fight on the front line.

The film depicts the suffering Veronika undergoes and the emotional challenges she faces while waiting for him to come home. The film became an international success, winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1958.

WHEN: Wednesday 21st January, 5-7pm WHERE: RFB Media Centre, 1st floor

Most importantly, there will be Russian snacks provided. There will also be a brief introduction and a discussion of the film afterwards. So, if this piques your curiosity, make sure you come along!

All are welcome!
