Below is an overview of the course structure for Spanish and/or Portuguese. It is possible to study Spanish and Portuguese as your two required languages in Cambridge, or else you can combine one of these languages with one of the other languages offered in the Faculty.
Year 1 - Part IA
Portuguese
- Option A (ab initio): 3 Language Papers (NB: One translation paper).
- Option B (post A-level): 2 Language Papers (plus an oral exam) and 1 Scheduled paper
Spanish
- Option A (ab initio): 3 Language Papers.
- Option B (post A-level): 2 Language Papers (plus an oral exam) and 1 Scheduled paper

- Recommended Spanish Dictionaries and Grammars
- Independent study in Portuguese, Spanish or Catalan speaking countries - short courses abroad. The J.B. Trend Fund gives small travel grants to students visiting Spanish- or Portuguese-speaking countries in order to study the language, literature, etc. of the countries of their choice.
- The Gibson Scholarship is designed for final-year undergraduate, or postgraduate students.
