Year Abroad

The Year Abroad is a compulsory academic component of the MMLL and HML Tripos. It takes part during the third academic year, during which students must spend at least 8 months studying and/or working in countries where the languages they studied during their first 2 years are spoken.

The Year Abroad is a unique time during your term of study that offers a range of opportunities for learning and growth. It requires planning and careful consideration.

Year Abroad Photo Competition

The Faculty holds a photography competition each year for students who have been on their Year Abroad.

Students on four-year Modern and Medieval Languages (MML) or History and Modern Languages (HML) courses spend their third year abroad, studying, working or teaching. It’s an exciting and challenging experience and an excellent way to immerse yourself in a culture and language.
