The call for applications for the 2025 round of this scheme has not yet been released, but the anticipated funder deadline is mid-March 2025.

The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge welcomes applicants for consideration for the British Academy International Fellowship scheme.

About

This joint initiative by the British Academy and the Royal Society supports exceptional early-career researchers in their career development. By funding international research placements in the UK, the program fosters global research collaborations and strengthens the UK's research landscape.

Objectives

  • Attract top international researchers to the UK.
  • Support high-quality, innovative research.
  • Enhance skills and knowledge through training and development.
  • Build long-term international research networks.

Eligibility

  • Hold a PhD (or be in the final stages of completion).
  • Have no more than seven years of postdoctoral experience (excluding career breaks).
  • Be based outside the UK and not a UK citizen.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency.
  • Secure a research proposal agreed upon with a UK host researcher.

Applicants should ensure that they meet all the eligibility requirements, which are explained in the 2024 scheme notes.

The internal Faculty deadline for candidates seeking consideration for MMLL is 12:00 PM BST on Friday, 31 January 2025.

Important: A UK Sponsor, a faculty member within the chosen department, is essential for this application. The sponsor must collaborate with the applicant throughout the process, from developing the project proposal to providing mentorship and support during the fellowship. The sponsor must be consulted and agree to support the application before the internal deadline. It is crucial that the sponsor has reviewed the relevant scheme notes.
