Morphology

Morphology

Convenor: Dr Jim Blevins

This seminar provides an overview of current approaches to the description and analysis of morphological variation. The first part of the course outlines some salient dimensions of variation in the worlds' languages and reviews the treatment of these patterns in dominant morphological traditions. The second part consists of student presentations that contrast competing perspectives on issues of current relevance. The third part summarizes how these issues have shaped the development of morphological models and considers whether current models fall within a single field.
