Cherry has previously studied Linguistics as well as Language and Communication at the University of Hong Kong (2009-2012), and completed an MPhil in Linguistics at DTAL (2013-2014), after one year of teaching at HKU’s department of linguistics. Cherry’s main research interest is on Chinese syntax, particularly the dialectal variations in Cantonese, with a special focus on negation, aspect, and classifiers. Beyond syntax, she also works on conversation analysis and has an enthusiasm for language documentation.
