Sarah Vitali is an affiliated lecturer at the University of Cambridge, where she teaches advanced Russian-to-English translation. She holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Harvard University, where her major field was Russian and her minor field was Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian. Her interests include translation theory and practice, identity and memoir, and the Russian Silver Age.
Sarah also works as a literary and academic translator. Her published translations include The Magic Lantern: Selected Poems by Afanasy Fet (co-translation with Alex Tullock; Columbia University Press, forthcoming), The Soviet Suppression of Academia: The Case of Konstantin Azadovsky by Petr Druzhinin (Bloomsbury Academic, July 2022), and Necropolis by Vladislav Khodasevich (Columbia University Press, 2019). She also serves as translation editor of the Brooklyn-based art and literary magazine American Chordata.
