Choix Goncourt UK 2021

Choix Goncourt UK 2021

This year again MML students were involved in awarding the prestigious Goncourt prize for the UK. The Choix Goncourt UK is a joint initiative of the Académie Goncourt, the Maison Française d’Oxford, the Higher Education, Research and Innovation Department at the French Embassy, the Institut français du Royaume-Uni, the AUF Europe de l’Ouest and Librairie La Page in London. The Choix Goncourt 2021 was awarded by 12 UK Universities (King’s College London, Royal Holloway University of London, Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick, Leeds, Southampton, Bath, Aberdeen, St Andrews, Queen’s Belfast and Open University) to Djaïli Amadou Amal for her wonderful novel Les Impatientes

Special thanks go to all the organizers, Catriona Seth, maîtresse de cérémonie, Catherine Colonna, Ambassador of France to the UK, and our two MML representatives: Ian Boyd and Conor Flynn. Special thanks also to David Ewing for organising the reading groups and making this a success despite the difficulties due to Covid 19, and last not least: thank you to all those involved in reading the four selected novels, and for approaching this with such astuteness, flair and gusto.
