My research is in the area of Spanish and US Latino Literature, with a particular focus on Chicano/a Literature written in Spanish and its relation to Hispanic Literature. More broadly, I am interested in the ways in which Spanish and Latin American literature is received and transmuted by U.S.-Latino writers. I analyze too the problem of translation, because in literature the characters are defined in part by the language they use.
My current research explores how the reception of Spanish literature in hybrid and multilingual U.S.-Latino/a texts alters our understanding of the classical literature. I have previously published in two edited volumes, Cinéma métis aux États-Unis: représentations de la frontière Mexique/États-Unis and South-to-South Dialogues between the Luso-Hispanic World and “The Orient”, and I have published articles in journals such as Revista forma, Escholarship (University of California), and Next.
