Matthias is the Research Support Librarian and is happy to assist graduate students and Faculty members with queries about publishing, Open Access, research data management, Symplectic, bibliometrics and any other research-related issues. Contact him if there is anything that would help with your research that you would like to receive more training in. He also manages the German and Film Studies collections, so let him know if you have any suggestions for purchases or any questions about accessing resources or databases in these areas.
Matthias was an undergraduate and a postgraduate at Cambridge and has several degrees from the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, so he has spent a lot of his life around the Sidgwick Site. If you’re keen, you can find his PhD thesis on ‘Pledges and Agreements in Old English’ in the University repository. In addition to working his way through a number of Cambridge libraries, he has been a lecturer, supervisor, translator, school librarian and – way back in the day – a reporter on his hometown newspaper.
Outside of work, Matthias enjoys watching sci-fi TV series and sports and spends probably far too much time fine-tuning his fantasy football team. He also has an ever-expanding collection of medieval-themed B-movies about which he is aiming to start a blog one of these days.
