Albertine Fox is currently working on a postdoctoral project that explores the aesthetics of the film interview in a selection of French and Francophone films and documentaries. Her PhD focused on the concept of 'acoustic spectatorship' and the significance of sound, music and the voice in Jean-Luc Godard’s film and video work beginning in 1979. Drawing on concepts proposed by film practitioners and theorists, sound theorists, art historians, philosophers and composers, this research opens alternative entry points into Godard’s audio-visual aesthetics. Her first monograph, Godard and Sound: Acoustic Innovation in the Late Films of Jean-Luc Godard will be published in 2017 by I.B. Tauris. Before this she completed a BA in French with Music and an MA by Research on the cinema of Marguerite Duras. Other research and teaching interests include gender studies, installation art, film and critical theory, ethics and listening.
