Professor Mark Darlow's 2012 book Staging the French Revolution: Cultural Politics and the Paris Opéra, 1789-1794 (New York: Oxford University Press) has just appeared in Chinese translation with Orpheus Music Series.
The book was runner-up for the Gapper Prize of the Society for French Studies and has established itself as a key reference in the field.
The book series in which it originally appeared - The New Cultural History of Music - aims to publish "works that employ the most recent methodological or theoretical perspectives," including "the now flourishing areas of sound studies, material culture, global cultural exchanges and cultural modes of political representation and contestation."
Prof Darlow said:
"I’m delighted that my book was selected for translation: I am particularly grateful for the opportunity to engage with readers in China and hopeful that my book can contribute to promoting European cultural history to a wider audience."
