Sura Qadiri specialises in postcolonial literature, particularly from the Maghreb, as well as contemporary French literature that addresses the theme of social diversity. Her first book, Postcolonial Literature and Sacred Scripture, Rewriting the Divine? (2014) explored the idea of literature as a space for generating a personalised language for testing and expressing private notions of the divine. She is currently working on a new book project on Postsecular Poetics: Reading Religion in French and Francophone Writing. This looks at how literary writing addresses social tensions between secular and religious ways of thinking.
Dr Qadiri welcomes inquiries from potential MPhil and PhD students with research interests relevant to her interests.
