The Italian Section is delighted to congratulate Dr Sara Delmedico, one of our former PhDs, for being awarded the IRC Maurice J Bric Medal of Excellence, as the top-ranked Postdoctoral Fellow of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences under the Council’s 2021 Government of Ireland funding programme. Her postdoctoral project explores the history of violence against women in Italy between 1861 and 1930, through a social, cultural, and legal context. Sara Delmedico completed her PhD in Cambridge under the supervision of Professor Helena Sanson and is now Postdoctoral Researcher at UCD, University College Dublin, School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. Her monograph Opposing Patriarchy. Women and the Law in Action in Pre-Unification Italy (1815-1865) (London: IMLR and London University Press, 282, pp.), based on her doctoral dissertation, was published in November 2021.
