Maria Stepanova in Cambridge 2020

During February and March 2020 poet, essayist and novelist Maria Stepanova will be at Cambridge University as Visiting Bye-Fellow at Selwyn College.

Maria Stepanova is a poet, essayist and journalist. She has published over ten collections of poetry in Russian, and several books of essay and criticism. Her most recent prose book Памяти памяти (In memory of memory), a study in the field of cultural history and memoir, was published to critical acclaim in Russia, winning the Big Book Prize in 2018, and is a current bestseller in Germany. She is the founder and editor-in-chief of the online independent crowd-sourced Russian journal colta.ru.

Her collection of poems War of the Beasts and the Animals is published in English by Bloodaxe in September 2020. In Memory of Memory is published by Fitzcarraldo Editions in English translation later this year.

During her visit, Maria will deliver a number of public events and workshops in Cambridge and across the UK:

    • Lecture, followed by informal conversation in Russian, in the Chadwick Room, Selwyn College, 5pm-7pm (students only)

 

  • Thursday 12 March         
    • Poetry and pizza translation workshop, Merton Hall Cottage, St John’s College, 5pm-6.30pm (students only)

 

  • Tues 17 March                 
    • Poetry Reading at the Blue Moon Pub, 2 Norfolk St, Cambridge, CB1 2LF, doors 7.30pm. £5/£4. In association with CB1.
